Locally Grown Pepper Plants – Ready to Plant

Our pepper plants are grown from seed right here on our farm, ensuring the highest quality. Sold in 3" square pots, each plant is hardened off and ready to be placed directly into your home garden for a strong, healthy start.

How to Grow and Harvest Pepper Plants

Choose a sunny spot in your garden with well-drained, fertile soil. Space pepper plants 18-24 inches apart, as they need room to grow. Peppers thrive in full sun (6-8 hours a day). Incorporate compost or organic matter into the soil to boost growth.

Water

Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water deeply when the top inch of soil feels dry. Mulch around the plants to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature. Avoid overhead watering to prevent fungal diseases. 

Fertilizing

Peppers are moderate feeders. Use a balanced fertilizer or one with a big higher phosphorus content to encourage strong root development and fruiting. Fertilize once a month during the growing season. Avoid too much nitrogen, as it can result in lush foliage but fewer peppers.

Pruning

Prune pepper plants to remove any dead or damaged leaves and branches. 

If your peppers grow tall, consider staking or using cages to keep the plants upright and prevent them from breaking under the weight of the fruit. 

When to Harvest

Peppers are typically ready to harvest when they reach full size and their color deepens (red, yellow, green, etc depending on the variety). For bell peppers, this means waiting until they turn their mature color (green to red, yellow to orange). For hot peppers, the longer they stay on the plant, the hotter they become.

How to Harvest

Use sharp scissors or pruners to cut the pepper from the plant, leave about 1-2 inches of the stem attached. Avoid pulling or twisting the peppers, as this could damage the plant.

Storage

Fresh peppers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 1-2 weeks. If you have an abundance, consider freezing them for long-term storage. Simply wash, slice and remove seeds before freezing.
